Simply Romanov Restaurant.

I was born and raised for the first 16 years of my life in beautiful, but oh so very cold part of Russia - Siberia. With its rich world history, Russian culture is full of traditions, and weddings are no exceptions. Having to reread Leo Tolstoi's "Anna Karenina" recently, I was inspired by all the beauty and luxury of the time period to create the shoot.

Wedding celebration could last anywhere from a day to a week, with fun games, in which guests and newlyweds are adamant participants. Sometimes, a bride might be "stolen" from the groom, and he, together with his groomsmen, would need to find her to "buy her out" just in time for the wedding - no bride, no wedding. She is usually hidden at her parents house, as she will be leaving it to go to her husband house.

One of the oldest wedding traditons is breaking of bread and eating it with salt. The bread represents Russian hospitality as it was the most respected food and the salt represents long friendship. Historically, Russia has had a very high tax on salt, so, it was seen as a symbol of prosperity as well - greating guests with a loaf of bread and having them eat it with salt showed how wealthy a household is. When it came to weddings, traditionally, mother of the bride bakes a loaf of bread for the newlyweds to tear a piece off of. Whoever breaks the larger piece off, is the head of the household. The bread gets put on a beautiful Rushnyk, an embroidered ceremonial cloth.

Also, at one point during a ceremony, as a bride dances, guests throw money at her and she sweeps it with a broom - the more money she sweeps, the wealthier a house will be.
